An interview with Jessica

Jessica Wawoe, Tribal Wisdom

Dear Jessica please introduce your organization to our readers in a few sentences.

Tribal Wisdom is all about the "Wisdom Holder" really: we seek to provide a portal for Wisdom Holders to connect, if they wish to, with one another and with those seeking wisdom around the world. It's important for the traditional knowledge they practice not to be lost, but to be shared, and for them to have power over their own representation. This is what our portal is dedicated to facilitating.

How did the idea of your project come about, how did it develop?

While expecting my first child, I wondered about relevant traditional practices and why it seemed so hard to find them. I expected plenty of knowledge about traditional birthing and ‘tribal parenting’ to be available on the internet. This sense of wonder soon extended to other themes like architecture, relationships and dealing with loss. Why are we not tapping into ancient science and weaving it into our modern lives more? And how interesting would it be for the people who still hold knowledge that has been passed on for generations, to connect with each other across the world and share their techniques and stories?

Realizing there wasn’t a place where this could all happen yet, I decided to apply my experience in global teams knowledge-sharing and digital marketing to create a platform for connecting this ‘Tribal Wisdom’.

What drives you every day, what are you passionate about?

I am fueled by the enthusiasm of the people I work with: the traditional knowledge holders, the elders who advise us, and the team of volunteers pouring their creativity into our endeavors. We all feel that integrating ancestral traditions, and indigenous practices into our daily lives, is one of the keys to the harmonious world we all envision.

If you had to name in 3 to 4 key words, in which areas you change the world for the better, what would these three words be?

  • Tradition
  • Connection
  • Remembrance

Thank you for these exciting insights. We are happy that we can support you together with the staff! If you want to know more, you can find detailed information here on the website of Tribal Wisdom.
