Yunisha - our 1st midwife
We accompany Yunisha, our midwife, on one of her home visits. For this we have to fight our way up a steep hill for a good half hour. Nanumaya lives in one of the typical Chepang houses. The 29-year-old woman has become a mother for the second time. Her baby is 26 days old.
During today's visit, Yunisha again inquires about the condition of the two and examines mother and child. They discuss the future weeks and which vaccinations would be advisable.
Nanumaya, the young mother, is happy that there is now a midwife and that her baby as well as she as a mother can enjoy targeted medical care.
A big and positive change in such a remote region as our project area is!
For Yunisha Chepang, the young woman from Silinge, a dream has come true. She is a trained midwife and can work in her home country!
Without support, however, this would not have been possible.
Yunisha's parents are very poor. As "simple" farmers, they would never have been able to finance an education for their daughter. So in 2018, we decided to pave the way for the young Chepang to become a midwife and to bear all the costs incurred.
And today, on an ordinary day of the year, it is as if it had never been different - a loving midwife goes about her work and visits a mother and her baby.
Yunisha is breaking new ground. She is a role model for many of the girls in our project region, showing them that their lives do not necessarily have to consist of early marriage, early motherhood and hard field work. There are perspectives!
