Although a lot has changed in recent years, depression and suicidal thoughts are still stigmatised. We asked the parties represented in the Bundestag: How can society be educated about mental health? How can we reduce the stigma of mental illness? 🤔

👉 FDP, SPD and Grüne want to educate people with information campaigns. Because "mental health concerns us all", says Dr Wieland Schinnenburg (FDP).

👉 Grüne demand that information must be provided about the symptoms and causes of depression: Depression can affect anyone and has nothing to do with weakness or guilt.

👉 Linke chooses a slightly different approach to destigmatise. It wants to ensure that people with mental illnesses are treated equally before the law. Sylvia Gabelmann (Linke) believes: "The more low-threshold help is anchored in everyday life, the more mental illnesses and the use of help will be destigmatised." Die Linke therefore calls above all for the expansion of therapy places and offers of help.
